The Interim MSU President announced she would not be seeking the permanent presidency.

“I was honored to be asked and then unanimously voted by the Board of Trustees to serve in an interim role as president, leading this great university at a moment of tumult and uncertainty,” Woodruff said.

In November 2022, MSU appointed Woodruff as interim president after Dr. Samuel Stanley, Jr. resigned and said he lacked faith in the Board of Trustees. Woodruff saw MSU through the mass shooting on February 13 which claimed the lives of three students and injured five others.

MSU has faced a vacuum of permanent leadership since 2018. President Lou Anna K. Simon departed in 2018 and faced legal troubles related to MSU’s coverup of the Larry Nassar sexual abuse scandal.

Former Michigan Gov. John Engler served briefly after Simon left, followed by Stanley.

Woodruff intends to remain interim president until a new president is selected by the Board of Trustees.
