LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Former GOP attorney general candidate Matt DePerno and former Michigan Representative Daire Rendon have been arraigned and criminally charged for their alleged involvement in accessing and tampering with voting machines after the 2020 election.

DePerno, who was endorsed by former President Donald Trump in his 2022 bid for attorney general, lost to Dana Nessel. Last fall, Nessel appointed Special Prosecutor D.J. Hilson because of the obvious conflict of interest. Hilson convened a grand jury in March to determine whether criminal indictments should be issued, according to court documents.

Nessel’s office released documents that showed five vote tabulators were taken from three counties in Michigan to a hotel room. Investigators said the tabulators were broken into and “tests” were performed on the equipment. They said that DePerno was there.

These charges come on the heels of Nessel’s charging of 16 people she said served as fake electors and tried to overturn the Michigan results of the 2020 election which went to President Joe Biden.

Last month, a state judge ruled that it’s a felony to take a machine without a court order or permission directly from the Secretary of State’s office. That offense is punishable by up to five years in prison.
