BIG RAPIDS, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Plans for a $2.4 billion Chinese-linked electric battery plant which will set up shop in Big Rapids despite mixed reaction from the community has been granted a-one year extension which pushes its overall timeline for completion back one year to 2031.

Last year, Michigan awarded Gotion a $125 million grant of taxpayer money along with a 30-year tax break valued at $540 million to support the investment. In addition, the economic development group The Right Place received a $50 million grant for the project.

Both Gotion and The Right Place are working to acquire land for the battery parts campus. The facility will produce cathode and anode materials for electric vehicle battery cells when completed.
