FRANKFORT, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The Crystal Lake and Watershed Association in Benzie County has issued a new warning regarding swimmer’s itch. It indicates the number of swimmers infected by the parasite causing swimmer’s itch has increased 1,000% over last summer on Crystal Lake.
In addition, the reports say that the severity of the infections has also increased dramatically on the lake that sits south of Traverse City and near Frankfort.
Research found that a specific snail species is the source of the parasite in Crystal Lake. There is a plan to trap-and-relocate these snails for 2024.
