For more than 20 years, the shop has provided an assortment of caffeinated beverages to those visiting and working at the Capitol.

“It has been our privilege and joy to provide the Capitol Community with great service, high-quality Biggby beverages, and a gathering place for almost 23 years,” a letter posted near the shop said.

Biggby Shop Managing Partner, Jeff McAlvey shared that the store would be permanently closing its doors on June 29th.

“We have been proud to serve the downtown Lansing and have tried everything we can think of to keep the store a viable business,” he said in the letter, “However, there just aren’t enough people downtown currently to provide the customer base we need to keep our franchise viable.”

According to the letter, the store is selling less than half of the beverages that it had sold before March 2020.

“Over the next three weeks we want to celebrate the wonderful years the House Biggby has had, and we hope to have a chance to thank many of you for your loyal support in person,” the letter said.

The House Biggby also had a notice stating that its doors would be closed this coming Monday, June 19th, in observance of Juneteenth.
