The family-friendly event invites attendees to ride in a classic World War II transport or Huey helicopter, pilot a helicopter simulator, and admire modern-day military aircraft. A static display will feature unique, experimental, and antique aircraft. Visitors can also sign up for flying lessons or learn about aircraft maintenance.
This year marks the airport’s second Aviation Day. Prior to last year’s inaugural event, airport manager Juan Zapata told MLive that he hoped to see visitors who wouldn’t normally include the airport in their plans.
“We’re trying to be a more open neighbor to the community,” Zapata said. “Many people aren’t even aware they have an airport in the community.”
More than two thousand attendees are expected at this year’s event, according to the airport website.
The event will run from 10 AM to 3 PM. Tickets for the main event are not required, but tickets for aircraft rides can be booked here. The Jackson County Airport is located at 3606 Wildwood Ave.
