DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Detroit won game two of the double header on Wednesday night, 8-1, and then shut out the New York Mets, 2-0, on Thursday afternoon. With the shutout win, Detroit is now 8-7 at home this year and 13-17 overall.
Justin Verlander started for the Mets but only went five innings giving up two earned runs which were both home runs. Javier Baez and Riley Greene both had home runs in the first inning for the final 2-0 score.

The crowd of 18,000+ fans helped Detroit’s momentum in the first inning. Green said, “When there’s a big crowd, we feed off of it. We look up and we’re like, ‘Yeah, let’s go’ and we give it 1% more.”
Eduardo Rodriguez finally received the run support for his strong pitching as he won his third game of the year. In eight innings of work, he gave up just two hits with nine strikeouts. Alex Lange finished off the ninth inning for his fifth save of the year gaining two strike outs.
Detroit will start a six-game road trip playing on Friday night in St. Louis.
