DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Eduardo Rodriguez continues to show his worth on the mound and had the run support from the Tigers giving him his fourth win of the year. Rodriguez went seven innings recording eight strikeouts giving up just four Cleveland hits as Detroit shutout the Guardians, 5-0.
He says, “I just keep going out there and post zeroes. I don’t think about how many games I’ve been pitching good. Just go out there and keep doing it.”

And doing he has been as Rodriguez has the second lowest ERA for American League starters at 1.57 allowing just one run over the past 35 2/3 innings. He now has six consecutive starts of five innings or more with one run of fewer which is the longest streak since 2016 when Michael Fulmer did it in his AL Rookie of the Year campaign. Justin Verlander holds the record with seven from his AL MVP season in 2011.
“He’s been really, really deliberate in the strike zone, he uses his pitches, getting ahead, and getting everything we want out of pitching. It’s great to see,” said Tigers manager A.J. Hinch.
Rodriguez received all the scoring he needed in the first inning with two runs as Riley Greene grounded out as Zach McKinstry scored. Andy Ibanez then doubled in Javier Baez for the two-run lead. Three more runs came in the third inning as Spencer Torkelson singled in Baez and then Akil Baddoo doubled to right field as the final two runs came in for a 5-0 lead.
Jason Foley and Chasen Shreve worked the eighth and ninth innings recording two strikeouts and no hits to close out the game.
McKinstry, Baez, and Ibanez all had two hits. Greene, Torkelson, Ibanez, and Baddoo each recorded a RBI.
Greene ends with, “When he is on the mound, we’re all like, ‘Let’s go!’. Watching him from center field, he’s incredible. He is not missing his spots.”
