DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Texas scored three runs in the final three innings moving a one-run game to a four-run win in Detroit. Detroit was down by one, 7-6, at the end of fifth inning but Texas scored two in the seventh and one in the ninth as they gave Detroit their second straight loss.
Miguel Cabera went 3-of-3 with two RBI surpassing Ken Griffey, Jr., for 15th place on the total bases list at 5,272.
Detroit manager A.J. Hinch said, “Miggy isn’t going to enjoy something like that, because we didn’t win the game, but we love to see him contributing like he did tonight.”
Alex Faedo fell to 1-3 on the year going 4.1 innings with four strikeouts giving up six earned runs.
Texas took a 1-0 lead in the second but Cabrera tied it in the bottom of the inning with a sacrifice fly. Detroit took a two-run lead, 3-1, with two runs in the third inning. Jake Rogers had a 381-foot home run for the lead, 2-1, and Spencer Torkelson doubled in Javier Baez making it 3-1. Texas retook the lead in the fourth, 4-3, only to see Detroit tie it at four in the bottom of the inning on a Zack Short infield single. Three more runs came for Texas in the fifth moving ahead, 7-4.
Andy Ibnez homered in the fifth to pull within two, 7-5, and then Cabrera doubled in a run making it 7-6. Texas then added two in the seventh on a home run and one in the ninth for a 10-6 final.
The final game of the series will be on Wednesday at 1:10 p.m.
