ANN ARBOR, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – With the end of the spring semester here, the NCAA Division I transfer portal is in full swing after spring practices. Michigan, has only lost 14 players to the portal in which the biggest name is former quarterback Cade McNamara.
McNamara will be a redshirt senior as he transfers to Iowa after three years at Michigan. He played in 21 games passing for more than 3,000 yards helping the Wolverines to the 2021 Big Ten Championship and College Football Playoffs.
Eight new players will be coming to Ann Arbor for 2023. Amongst the biggest names is former Indiana quarterback Jack Tuttle. He will be a redshirt senior after graduating from Indiana with a supply chain management degree. This past season he was the starting quarterback and team captain for Indiana but after one game he had a season-ending injury. Also coming over from Indiana is tight end A.J. Banner.
Adding to an offensive line that has been great the past two seasons, Drake Nugent comes from Stanford. He will be a senior after playing for seasons at Stanford and starting 24 games being an All-Pac 12 honorable mention selection. Myles Hinton, another offensive tackle from Stanford, comes with teammate Nugent to the Wolverines. He earned three letters at Stanford starting 16 games while playing in 23. A third offensive lineman is transferring in as LaDarius Henderson moves in from Arizona State. The graduate student was a four-year varsity letter winner at ASU with 29 starts allowing just two sacks in his time.
Defensively, Ernest Haumann transfers in from Nebraska at linebacker. He played one year for the Huskers starting seven games. Coastal Carolina’s Josaiah Stewart, an edge player, will add depth to the line. He was a two-year letter winner with 17 starts and was a freshman All-American and two-time All-Sun Belt selection.
As the new year approaches, Michigan has used the portal to address their needs right away bringing in veteran players.
