EAST JORDAN, Mich. (MIRS News) – A Charlevoix County man is accused of threatening to kill President Joe Biden, phoning in bomb threats to the White House and a U.S. Marine Corps base in California.
An affidavit from FBI Special Agent Daniel Olson filed in the U.S. District Court Western District alleges Preston Scott Mikottis, 36, of East Jordan, called the FBI’s Detroit office in November 2021, claiming: “I planted a bomb at Camp Pendleton, California.” In that call, he identified himself by name and provided an address.

He repeated the bomb threat in subsequent calls, including one in which he said: “I plan on killing the President and I planted bombs all over East Jordan, Michigan,” according to Olson’s affidavit.
The FBI also alleges that Mikottis called a Washington, D.C., Marine Corp barracks claiming to have planted a bomb and that he was on his way to kill the president, which prompted an emergency response.
The threats continued into January when Mikottis allegedly texted a threatening message to Corner Bistro in Bellaire. In April, he allegedly called a South Dakota sheriff’s office warning that “you may want to evacuate” before disconnecting the call, according to the complaint.
Mikottis, who admitted he made the threats, apologized, telling agents that he had “no intentions or means to carry out” the threats, according to the complaint, which charges him with making a false bomb threat and threatening the President. He faces up to 10 years in prison if he is convicted as charged.
