DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Collecting nine hits, Detroit could not find any runs to go with them as Cleveland took a 2-0 win in Ohio. Spencer Torkelson and Akil Baddoo combined for three hits each as three other Tigers had one hit.

“We had traffic on the bases every inning, but out pitch selection was probably not our best when we needed it. Bieber continued to spin u over and over again,” said Tigers’ manager A.J. Hinch.

Michael Lorenzen went seven innings allowing just one earned run on five hits with three strikeouts receiving the loss.

Detroit was 1-of-15 with runners in scoring position as Torkelson was the only player to put a player close to scoring. In the second inning, there was a bases loaded situation with one out after a Cleveland error, but Rogers struck out and McKinstry flew out to end the threat. It was the third inning that Detroit almost scored as Javier Baez was thrown out at home from right field.

Again, in the sixth inning, Detroit had two runners on and no outs but a strike out and double play finished off the scare as the Tigers trailed, 1-0. The same scenario took place in the seventh as two runners with one out but the next two batters struck out.

As Hinch said, they had the traffic on the base but couldn’t bring them in.

Detroit is now 6-2 in May and will finish out the series vs. Cleveland on Wednesday at 1:10 p.m.
