LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – According to the American Automobile Association insurance company (AAA), Michiganders can expect even lower gas prices this week. It marks the third consecutive week of dropping costs.

“Michigan motorists continue to see lower prices at the pump for the third straight week,” said Adrienne Woodland, spokesperson for AAA-The Auto Club Group. “If demand remains low, drivers will likely see gas prices continue to decline.”

AAA reports that drivers are paying an average of $3.38 per gallon of regular unleaded gas-23 cents less than that this time last month.

“Compared to last week, Metro Detroit’s average daily gas price decreased,” AAA said in a statement, “Metro Detroit’s current average is $3.48 per gallon, about 12 cents less than last week’s average and 57 cents less than this same time last year.”

Currently, Traverse City is logging the highest gas costs at $3.65, followed closely by Marquette with $3.52 per gallon, while some of the cheapest gas is coming from Grand Rapids and Flint at $3.33 per gallon.

“Motorists are paying an average of $52 for a full 15-gallon tank of gasoline; a discount of about $26 from 2022’s highest price last June,” AAA said in a statement.

The insurance group also reported that total domestic gasoline stocks decreased by 2.4 million barrels of crude oil (bbl) to 221.2 million bbl.

“Higher demand, alongside a decline in stocks, would typically push pump prices up; however, fluctuating oil prices have pushed them lower,” the group said in a statement.

Based on new data from the Energy Information Administration, gas demand decreased significantly from 9.51 to 8.62 million barrels a day.

While Michigan’s current prices reside beneath the National Average, $3.54, it trails other surrounding states’ average gas prices.  Indiana is currently at $3.41, Ohio still lower at $3.36, and Wisconsin coming in at $3.32 per gallon.
