DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – A win streak didn’t happen too often in 2022 but just five games into 2023, the Detroit Tigers have an early season win streak. The Tigers took game two over World Series Champion Houston, 6-3, on Tuesday night for their second straight win over the Astros.

Spencer Torkelson had a career night with three hits and three RBI including a two-run home run in the eighth inning. Riley Greene also had three hits with two runs scored. Matt Vierling recorded a RBI and two hits while Ryan Kreidler added two hits.

Matt Manning went 5 2/3 innings giving up just six hits with four strikeouts and two earned runs. Trey Wingenter came in to close in the ninth recording one strikeout, two hits, and one earned run.

Up 3-2 headed into the eighth inning, Detroit found two runs to push their lead to 5-2. With one out, Greene singled to centerfield as Torkelson followed with a two-run home run to go up by three runs. In the ninth, Vierling doubled in Kreidler with two outs for a four-run lead, 6-2.

Torkelson earned his first RBI of the game with a double as Javier Baez scored on. Houston tied the game at one at the bottom of the first and took the lead, 2-1, with a run in the fourth. Detroit countered in the top of the fifth on when Jake Rogers singled in a run to tie the game. Eric Haase put the Tigers in front, 3-2, in the sixth inning on a ground out as Greene came in. That was the extent of the scoring until the two-run eighth inning.

Detroit finished with 12 hits in the game.

They will finish their three-game series on Wednesday at 2:10 p.m. in Houston.
