DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Taking down one of the National League’s hottest teams in the Milwaukee Brewers, Detroit has now taken the first two games in the series. Headed into the first game, Milwaukee had a NL best 15-7 record. They don’t anymore as Pittsburgh and Atlanta are 16-8.

On Tuesday night, Detroit scored early with four runs in the second inning and then the Tigers’ late relief pitching came through for the win and save. Mason Englert came in the sixth inning after Tyler Alexander gave up the tying home run on a 2-2 count to the first batter of the inning. Englert followed with 2.2 innings of work recording four strikeouts allowing just one hit for his first win of the year. Jason Foley worked his save magic the last 1.1 innings for his second save of the year picking up two strikeouts.

Kerry Carpenter became the hero of the game with a three-run homer in the second inning for the early lead. Four batters later, with two outs, Spencer Torkelson singled to left field bringing in the fourth run.

Detroit finished with 12 hits as Matt Vierling recorded three hits. Javier Baez, Torkelson, and Miguel Cabrera all had two hits.

The series will finish on Wednesday afternoon at 1:40 p.m. in Milwaukee.
