DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Detroit has now lost seven of their first nine games of the year coming off a sweep by the Boston Red Sox on Sunday, 4-1. The last time that happened was in Miguel Cabrera’s first season with Detroit 20 years ago. Now, they will look for a third win heading to Toronto.

Manager A.J. Hinch says, “When we come to the ballpark every day, we come with a clear thought that we’re going to win today’s game. We don’t carry a lot of baggage with us. We don’t spend a lot of time talking about what’s happened in the rearview mirror. It’s our reality; that’s why they keep the standings. But we spend a ton of time and focus on what we’re doing that day. That has nothing to do with the previous X amount of games. We just can’t afford to drag that negative … into the day, to be honest.”

Detroit had nine hits in the loss to Boston but mustered up just one run from Spencer Torkelson as he went 2-of-4. Javier Baez and Akil Baddoo added two hits, too. Matthew Body took the loss going 4.2 innings with four strikeouts and two runs scored. Four other pitchers were used in the game finishing with nine strikeouts.

The lone run came in the first inning when Torkelson singled in Baez for the 1-0 lead. That didn’t last long as Boston tied the game in the top of the second and took the lead in the fifth, 2-1. One run was added in the seventh and ninth innings for the 4-1 score.

Detroit will play next on Tuesday in Toronto at 7:07 p.m.
