DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Eduardo Rodriguez strong pitching performance was wasted once again by the Detroit Tigers relief staff as they fell, 2-1, in extra innings. It is the third time in the past four games that Detroit has lost by one run as they are now 7-13.

Rodriguez had a perfect game through six innings and gave up a hit in the seventh. Detroit took a 1-0 lead in the top of eighth inning on a Spencer Torkelson sacrifice fly. That would put Rodriguez on record for the win, if Detroit was able to hold onto the win. That didn’t happen.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, Chasen Shreve came in relief. The first batter grounded out but then the second recorded a single to Shreve. Shreve then struck out the next batter but Baltimore’s Santander doubled to left field to score the tying run. Shreve walked the next batter and then was relieved by Alex Lange.

Lange struck out the batter and then retired the side in the ninth recording two strikeouts in 1.1 innings pitched. In the 10th inning, Mason Englert came in after a great outing by Lange. Baltimore had a sacrifice bunt to start the game and move the runner placed on second over to third base. On his next pitch, it went wild behind home plate as Frazier scored the winning run. Englert’s two pitches decided the game as Detroit fell in their second one-run game in the series.

Detroit had seven hits on the day as Matt Vierling had two.

The Tigers now head to Milwaukee for a three-game series starting on Monday night at 7:40 p.m.
