LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The final funding for the controversial Gotion plant in Big Rapids may get new life. The Michigan Senate Appropriations Committee has a meeting scheduled for Thursday at 11:30 a.m. The agenda says “legislative transfer request 2023-1.” It’s the same wording that was used when the committee voted on the funding for the Our Next Energy and Ford battery plant projects.

Political reporter Johnathan Oosting of Bridge Michigan had tweeted around 3 p.m. today that the Chair, Democrat State Senator Sarah Anthony had reserved time for public comment and is planning a vote. Republican State Senator Lana Theis (R-Brighton) also confirmed with Michigan News Source that the meeting is about Gotion.

The meeting is only scheduled for 15 minutes as there is another meeting in the same room scheduled at 11:45 a.m. for the Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture and Natural Resources. With the vote itself only taking about two minutes, that leaves about 13 minutes for public comment.

The meeting had been delayed over questions about security and environmental concerns.
