DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Four Detroit Lions players have been suspended by the NFL for gambling issues this past year. Wide receiver Quintez Cephus and safety C.J. Moore have been suspended for a full year while Jameson Williams and Stanley Berryhill will have a six-game suspension.
It was found out that Cephus and Moore had bet on NFL games as Detroit found out about the investigation a month ago. As soon as the NFL made a decision, the Lions followed up by letting Cephus and Moore go from the team.

Williams and Berryhill were handed a six-game suspension as they didn’t bet on NFL games but made general bets from a league facility. NFL league policy says that players cannot bet on NFL games, the draft or any league-related activities under any circumstances. They also cannot place any bets while at a team facility or on team-related travel. Williams and Berryhill earned their suspensions from the NFL for placing bets at a league facility but did not bet on any NFL games.
Brad Holmes, the General Manager, said, “As a result of the NFL investigation, it came to our attention that a few players had violated the league’s gambling policy. These players exhibited decision making that is not consistent with our organizational values and violates league rules. We have made the decision to part ways with Quintez and C.J. immediately. We are disappointed by the decision making demonstrated by Stanly and Jameson and will work with both players to ensure they understand the severity of these violations and have clarity on the league rules moving forward.”
Williams was a first-round pick last year that sat out most of the season due to an ACL injury. Detroit traded up to get him and had one reception for a touchdown.
The attorney for Williams made a statement saying, “Jameson takes full responsibility for his actions and is very apologetic to the NFL, his teammates and the fans and city of Detroit. However, it is important to note that Jameson’s violation was not for betting on football but rather due to a technical rule regarding the actual location in which the online bet was placed – in which would otherwise be allowed by the NFL outside of the club’s facility. Jameson would never intentionally jeopardize the integrity of the game he loves so much and looks forward to getting back to his team as soon as possible.”
Both Williams and Berryhill can be a part of the team with organized team activities, minicamp, training camp and preseason but cannot play in the regular season until week seven.
