HILLSDALE, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Florida Governor Ron DeSantis visited Hillsdale College on Thursday night to speak about Florida’s new approach to education reform and discuss the state’s overall condition.
He began by explaining how successful his re-election in Florida was in 2022, which was also the largest margin of victory that the state has seen in 40 years.

“We won 62 of 67 counties including places like Palm Beach County and we won Miami Day county by double digits,” Gov. DeSantis said, “Which nobody thought was possible.”
According to the twice-elected governor, the election basically realigned Florida from “the nation’s biggest, most expensive, most important swing state,” into a red state.
“Today we have more Republicans than Democrats, 450,000 more Republicans than Democrats,” Gov. DeSantis continued, “We only did it because people responded to our leadership.”
During his roughly half hour speech, Gov. DeSantis highlighted how the state has changed education policy to give parents more rights in their students’ education.
“We are also protecting parents and students against the left’s views on education not just in K-12 but also in higher education. We believe parents have the right to be active in their children’s education. We’ve banned concepts like CRT,” he said.
Besides K-12 Education, Gov. DeSantis highlighted how the state is taking a new approach to higher education, highlighting the revision of the New College of Florida back to its original mission of a classical education.
