DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – In front of 44,650 fans and Miguel Cabrera’s last home opener of his career, Detroit fell short of a win, 6-3, to Boston. It was a special season opener as Hall of Famers Nicklas Lidstrom (Red Wings), Calvin Johnson (Lions), and Ben Wallace (Pistons) all threw out the first pitch.

Cabrera said, “I’m happy with this moment. I’m not sad. I’m happy because it’s been a good 21 years in the big leagues. I never take anything for granted. I’m going to enjoy this year, and when they give me a chance to play, hopefully I can do my job.”

Detroit had six hits from six different players as Cabrera had one with a RBI. Jake Rogers posted a home run for two RBI.

Rogers homered in the second inning as Detroit took a 2-0 lead. Boston added their first score in the third but Cabrera singled in a run for a 3-1 lead. Boston added one in fourth and then tied It at three in the sixth inning. In that same inning, they also had a three-run home run to take the lead 6-3. Detroit could only get a runner to second base in the next three innings as they lost by three.

The two teams will face off on Saturday in the second game of the series.
