DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Rallying from five-runs down to force extra innings, veteran Miguel Cabrera came through in the 11th inning with a walk-off single as Detroit earned a win over San Francisco, 7-6. Detroit is now 5-9 overall earning their second win at home.
Cabera said after the game, “It feels great. We got the win in the series and now we can go for the sweep tomorrow.”

Spencer Torkelson was the runner placed on second base to start the 11th inning. He advanced to third on a wild pitch and then Cabrera took a 2-2 count singling to center field as Torkelson trotted in for the winning run.
“We were going to go after Rogers with righties – Nevin was already on deck – but once we got the runner to third with the wild pitch, we were all confident that Miggy was going to get it done,” said manager A.J. Hinch.
Chasen Shreve received the win in relief as one of six pitchers in the game. He pitched the 11th inning walking one but gave up no hits. Michael Lorenzen went four innings with six strikeouts and six earned runs before exiting. The pitching staff finished with 12 strikeouts on the day and no earned runs after Lorenzen left the game.
Nine players had a hit in the game as Javier Baez was the only one with two hits recording two RBI. Kerry Carpenter had a home run for a RBI. Torkelson, Cabera, Zach Mckinstry, and Matt Vierling all had one RBI.
The Giants took a 4-0 lead after the top of the second inning but Carpenter homered in the bottom of the inning to make it 4-1. Two more runs for the Giants came in the third as they made it 6-1. Detroit then scored two in the fifth and three in the eighth making it a 6-6 tie.
Detroit’s pitching retired the side in the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings with 11 straight outs from the end of the fifth through beginning of the ninth inning.

The two teams will finish the series on Sunday in Detroit.
