DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Detroit was given their ninth straight loss as Washington had a putback shot with no time left for the win, 119-117. After a Washington airball, the Wizards’ Daniel Gafford made magic happen with the last second shot for the win in Detroit.

“Everyone looks at the last play, but there were a lot of plays before that,” said Pistons head coach Dwane Casey. “I applaud those guys for fighting that hard against a team trying to make the playoffs. A lot of them weren’t here two weeks ago, and they are still figuring out how to play together.”

Detroit’s nine game losing streak started with a one-point loss, 119-118 on Feb. 12 and now has four games decided by two points. They last lost a two-point game on Mar. 1 against Chicago, 117-115.

Jaden Ivey led the team with 26 points and 12 rebounds as James Wiseman added 21 points. Both Marvin Bagley III and Eugene Omoruyi added 15 points while Cory Joseph and R.J. Hampton gave 11 points.

Ivey hit a three-pointer with 3:18 left to put Detroit up, 110-109. Both teams then battled back and forth in the next two minutes. Ivey was then fouled with 50 seconds left making both free throws for the 117-115 lead. Washington tied the game at 117 with 35 seconds left and then Isaiah Livers had his shot blocked at 24 seconds. That gave Washington the last chance to win the game in which the putback happened for the win.

Detroit had a strong second quarter for a 58-53 lead but by the end of the third they trailed by one, 89-88. They finished shooting 51 percent overall and made 13 three-pointers.

The Pistons will host Charlotte on Thursday.
