DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Pete Maravich’s scoring record of 3,667 points is still safe as Detroit Mercy’s Antoine Davis came up just four points shy of the record. Playing in the second round of the Horizon League Tournament, UDM fell to top seeded Youngstown State, 71-66, ending their season. Davis scored 22 points needing 26 points to break the record and finishes with 3,664. The feat became possible after he scored 38 points on Tuesday in the win over Purdue Fort Wayne.
Davis was 7-of-26 from the field and hit four three-pointers but didn’t have the night he usually has from the floor. Youngstown State made him force five turnovers as he didn’t have any rebounds.
His legacy will forever be remembered for all the accolades he earned and records set. Just his week, he was added to the Oscar Robinson Trophy Late Season Watch List by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association. He is one of 15 players selected to be in contention for the National Player of the Year. That goes with his second straight Horizon League Player of the Year award given late last week along with being a five-time All-Horizon League first team selection.
UDM finishes their season at 14-19 and is the second straight year with 14 wins.
