ANN ARBOR, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Michigan’s post season didn’t start the way they wanted it to as they fell to no. 9 seeded Rutgers University, 62-50. The two were playing each other in the second round of the Big Ten Tournament in their first game at the United Center in Chicago.

Hunter Dickinson led the team with 24 points and seven rebounds while Kobe Bufkin had nine points. Michigan shot just 34 percent, including a dismal 19 percent (4-of-21) in the second half. They also only made six three-pointers the entire game. They were out rebounded, 37-30, and had 14 turnovers.

Michigan had a strong first half talking a 9-2 lead early. The two teams went back and forth and UM had an 18-11 lead with 7:19 left. Rutgers came back to take a 25-23 lead but Dickson tied the game. Joey Baker then hit a buzzer beating three-pointer as the Wolverines took a 28-25 lead at the half.

It was half through the second half where Michigan’s offense stalled and Rutgers took over. Rutgers started the half on a 9-1 run  to take a five-point lead but Dickinson hit a three-pointer at 15:00 to come within three. That was the last field goal for Michigan over the next nine minutes. Rutgers followed with a long run, 12-0, to take a 52-39 lead with just under six minutes to play. UM still couldn’t find their offense to keep up with Rutgers as the Wolverines fell to Rutgers.

Michigan will now wait and see if they will make the NCAA Tournament on Sunday.
