ANN ARBOR, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Michigan received a scare in the second round of the Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament as they held off Penn State, 63-61. They will now take on rival Ohio State on Friday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. in Minneapolis, Minn.

With just over two minutes to play, Michigan had a nine point lead but Penn State made a late surge to pull within two, 63-61. In the final 11 seconds, Penn State’s Aicha Dia stole the ball from Leigha Brown and gave it to teammate Makenna Marisa who missed a jumper as time expired.

Emily Kiser led the Wolverines with 13 points and eight rebounds. Brown followed with 12 points as Laila Phelia also had 13 points. UM shot 46 percent but made just 27 percent of their three pointers and went 8-of-13 from the line.

The entire game was close tied at 14 after the first quarter as UM had a one-point lead at the half, 30-29. UM scored 22 points in the third quarter for a two-point lead going into the fourth quarter. A lead of nine was built up in the fourth quarter by Michigan, 63-54, with 2:09 to go. That’s when PSU scored seven straight points to come within two before missing the final shot.

Michigan is now 22-8 on the year and will now play in the quarterfinals.
