EAST LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Extending the NCAA Division I longest streak for making the tournament in Big Ten history, Michigan State was selected for the national tournament on Sunday night. The streak is the third longest in NCAA history behind Kansas’ 33 appearances that started in 1990 and North Carolina’s of 27 from 1975-2001.

MSU will be the seventh-seed in the East Region and will take on No. 10-seeded USC on Friday, March 17, at 12:15 p.m. in Nationwide Arena in Columbus. The winner will face the winner between second-seed Marquette and No. 15 seed Vermont on Sunday, March 19. This will be the seventh meeting between MSU and Southern California as it is tied at 3-3. They last met in 2009 in the NCAA Tournament when MSU won, 74-69, as they made a run to the championship game.

Tom Izzo becomes the first coach in NCAA history to lead a team to 25 consecutive tournaments surpassing Mike Krzyzewski’s streak of 24 from 1996 to 2019.

This is the 36th appearance by MSU in the NCAA Tournament as they are 70-34 in the 35 tournaments they have played in. They have been to the Final Four 10 times and won the national championship in 1979 and 2000. They have the eighth best winning percentage in the NCAA Tournament at .673.

The East Regional final is March 23 and 25 in New York at Madison Square Garden if they make it past the first two rounds. MSU will take a 19-12 record to March Madness starting on Thursday.
