MARQUETTE, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Each year, a street in Marquette is closed to traffic for the migration of the blue-spotted salamander.

Portions of Peter White Drive in Presque Isle Park are closed each spring from 8pm to 8am daily for the better part of two months.

Officials with the Marquette Police Department announced that due to current snowpack and weather conditions, the migration is not expected to begin for several more weeks.

What started as an effort to protect the migration patterns of the salamander has gained national attention in recent years.
