DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Filip Zadina, playing in his first NHL game since November 5 due to an injury, came back strong registering the game winning goal in the third period as Detroit held on for the 2-1 win over Calgary. Zadina shot from the right faceoff circle at the 5:51 mark for the winning goal at Little Caesars Arena.

“It felt pretty good. Even better that I could help the team win the game,” said Zadina. “It felt amazing!”

Neither team scored in the first period but Calgary found the net late in the second period at 18:07. Dylan Larkin, coming off his NHL All-Star break, tied the game with just 14 seconds left in the period on a power-play making it 1-1. It was Zadina then who scored in just under six minutes into the third period for the 2-1 lead. After that goal, Detroit goalie Ville Husso had four major stops to collect the win recording 35 saves on the game and 15 in that period.

Husso said of the win, “It was a huge win for us. After the Edmonton game, which I think was winnable game too, that got away from us. So, we came in and played hard for a full 60 minutes.”

Detroit is now 22-20-8 with 52 points as the win snapped a six-game losing streak to Calgary.

Head coach Derek Lalonde finishes with, “It was a complete effort tonight. We got rewarded!”
