DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – After taking a 1-0 lead over Edmonton in the first period, the Oilers scored three times in the second period as they took the game, 5-2, in the first game back after All-Star Break. Tyler Bertuzzi netted the first goal of the game at 10:24 off of a pass from Dylan Larkin and Lucas Raymond. It was Bertuzzi’s second goal of the year. When it looked like Detroit was going to take over the period, three of their shots hit the post in a four minute period.

Edmonton acted quickly to take the lead in the second period scoring two goals in 36 seconds. The first came at 3:02 by Ryan McLeod. Warren Foegele then gave the Oilers the lead at 3:38 and scored a second goal at 11:55 making it 3-1. Joel Veleno ended the period for Detroit just before time ran out at 19:51 to cut the lead to one, 3-2.

It was a one-goal game for most of the third period but Ryan Nugent-Hopkins found the net on a power play goal at 15:38 making it 4-2. Evander Kane then finished out the scoring at 17:33 for the 5-2 final.

Ville Husso made 23 saves for Detroit.

Detroit will play next on Thursday, February 9, hosting Calgary at 7:00 p.m.
