DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Just two days after a 5-2 win over Vancouver in Michigan, Detroit went back to work for six more goals in Canada winning their third-straight game, 6-1. Three goals in the third period sealed the win for Detroit as they were only up, 3-1, after two periods.
“A really good road win, didn’t know what to expect. It was a weird back-to-back,” said head coach Derek Lalonde. “Tough to beat anybody in this league two times in a row, especially the Noon game (on Saturday) and the travel (on Sunday).”
Detroit started out with a 2-0 lead in the first period as Dylan Larkin beat two Canucks defensemen sending a backhand between the Vancouver goalie at 10:58. Almost four minutes later, Robby Fabbri found Larkin for his second straight goal on the doorstep to lead after one period, 2-0.
Just over a minute into the second period, Vancouver snuck their only goal of the game past Ville Husso (1:31). At 8:09, Fabbri put his name on the board off of a Michael Rasmussen blocked shot to make it 3-1.
It was Detroit’s turn to score early at the start of the third period just 40 seconds in. Gustav Lindstrom put the puck in from close up for his first goal of the season. Just about five minutes later, Pius Suter made it 5-1 on his seventh goal of the year. Jonatan Berggren finished off the scoring for Detroit at 7:52 on an assist from Filip Hronek and Joe Veleno for his 11th goal of the year.
Husso collected 29 saves as Detroit moved to 24-20-8 (56 points). He said after the game, “It’s always nice when you get the wins. We just need to keep rolling. We can’t get too comfortable.”
Detroit heads to Edmonton on Wednesday night for a 9:30 p.m. game.
