FLINT, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – ACI Plastics is opening a new plastics recycling facility in Flint.
The plant’s technology will make ACI Michigan’s largest processor of post-consumer recycled plastic film, peaking at 24 million pounds of film processed per year.

“I’m delighted to announce more than $10 million of new investment here in the city of Flint by ACI Plastics to … create this new facility,” said Mayor Sheldon Neeley. “This is a great day in the city of Flint.”
Companies such as Meijer, Amazon, and Walmart will turn over used plastic film to the new plant. The film will then be transformed into plastic pellets that can be used for a variety of manufacturing, including producing plastic bottles and bags. ACI is partnering with Ravago—a Luxembourg-based plastic resin distributor—to ship pellets to US-based firms, potentially including Michigan’s Petoskey Plastics and Cascade Engineering.
The process is expected to create up to 30 new jobs. Hiring will begin in May of this year, and priority will be given to Flint residents.
ACI Plastics’ President Scott Melton thanked the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) and the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) for providing funding for the new plant. His company received a $300,000 Renew Michigan infrastructure grant from EGLE and a $150,000 Business Development Program grant from MEDC.
“We like going to sleep every night knowing that [we’re] not only doing something to help the environment by recycling millions of pounds of scrap plastics, but we’re also providing a good living for many employees,” he said during a Feb. 6 press conference.
