ANN ARBOR, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – A special outdoor “Faceoff on the Lake” challenge took place at FirstEnergy Stadium at the home of the NFL Cleveland Browns on Saturday. In front of 45,000 fans, Michigan dropped the top 10 game, 4-2, and now are 20-10-2 overall and 12-9-1 in the Big Ten.

After a scoreless first period, Ohio State netted three goals as Michigan had one as that became the difference in the game. OSU went up 2-0 late in the second period before UM scored. The Buckeyes’ Cole McWard made it 1-0 at 14:21 and then Jake Wise scored on a power play for the 2-0 advantage. UM’s Gavin Brindley cut the lead to one, 2-1, on an Adam Fantilli assist at 18:25. Duke Tyler scored a short-hand goal for OSU at 19:10 to make it 3-1.

Michigan outshot OSU, 20-7, in the third but couldn’t come any closer than, 3-2. Eric Ciccolini put in the second goal of the game at 8:46 on assists from Jackson Hallum and Frank Nazar III. OSU had their second power play goal of the game at 9:42, under a minute after UM cut the lead to one, as Stephen Halliday netted the fourth goal of the game.

Erik Portillo had 30 saves on 34 shots for Michigan.

Michigan is now 4-4-1 in outdoor games in program history.
