HOUGHTON, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Efforts are continuing at a Northern Michigan national park to combat diseased trees.
Through a partnership with researchers at Michigan Technological University, seven beech saplings created from disease-resistant American beech tree cuttings were successfully grafted and planted in early November 2022 at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park.
Now another round of the trees have been planted.
The project, resulting from five years of planning and research with Michigan Tech, aims to combat beech bark disease, caused by an invasive sap-feeding insect.
