EAST LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Earning the Big Ten’s First Star of the Week award for hockey is Michigan State’s Jagger Joshua. He produced a four-goal weekend in a big series over Penn State. MSU took an overtime victory and then a tie/shootout win.

Joshua had his second hat trick of the year in the second game of the series in the 4-4 tie/shootout win.  In the first game, MSU trailed 2-0 in the third period as Joshua had the tying goal at 13:11 before teammate Cole Krygier recorded the winning goal in overtime. In the 4-4 shootout win, Joshua posted a hat trick with the tying goal at 3:54 in the third period. His first goal came at 15:02 in the second period to cut the lead to one, 3-2, and then four minutes later tied the game at three just before the period ended. Penn State went up 4-3 at 3:43 in the third period before Joshua’s tying goal  just 11 seconds later as the game went to a shootout.

He now has 11 goals on the year which is a single season best for him. He is now only one of two NCAA Division I hockey players to record multiple hat tricks this year. It is also the second time this year he was the Big Star winner gaining the award on October 25 for a hat trick vs. Long Island University.

MSU is currently tied for second in the Big Ten with 24 points and will be back on the ice January 27-28 in a two-game series with Minnesota.
