EAST LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Tied at seven just over five minutes into the game, Purdue went on an 10-0 run and never looked back as they handed Michigan State their fifth Big Ten loss of the year, 77-61. Purdue went on for a 18-point halftime lead, 40-22, and shot 50 percent in the game scoring 22 points off of 14 forced turnovers.

A.J. Hoggard led MSU with 20 points shooting 60-perenct from the floor and Jaden Akins added 12 points. MSU finished shooting 47 percent and 50 percent from the arc but gave up 42 points in the paint.

After Purdue went up 17-7 on the 10-0 run at 11:36 in the first half, MSU did come within four, 19-15, on an Akins jumper at 10:11. At 8:36, Purdue had a five-point lead, 22-17, on a Hoggard jumper after a Carson Cooper steal trying to get momentum their way. That is as close as MSU would come the rest of the first half. Purdue answered with another 10-0 run to push their lead to 15, 32-17, with 3:51 remaining. UM only scored five points in the final eight minutes as they went down by 18 at the half., 40-22.

Purdue made it a 20-point lead, 42-22, in the first minute of the second half. MSU did outscore the Boilermakers, 39-37, in the half and cut the lead down to 10, 53-43, with 11:45 left. The lead was back to 20 points, 74-54, with 3:45 to go in the game as Purdue went on for the 77-61 win.

MSU will travel to Rutgers University next Saturday playing at Madison Square Garden.
