ANN ARBOR, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – A day after President Ono said Jim Harbaugh was coming back, Harbaugh’s Co-Offensive Coordinator Matt Weiss has been suspended from the program. Weiss is on paid leave for a university investigation into probed allegations of computer crimes at Schembechler Hall.
The Detroit News reported on the investigation after questions they asked the UM Police Department. Deputy Police Chief Crystal James said in a statement, “The University of Michigan Police Department is investigating a report of computer access crimes that occurred at Schembechler Hall during Dec. 21 through the 23rd of 2022. Since this is an ongoing investigation, there is no additional information to share.”

The UM Police Department then told ESPN it was investagting a “report of computer access crimes.” The release from the police department didn’t release any names being investigated but Weiss has not been at the facility and is not out recruiting. The University of Michigan Athletic Department issued a short statement after the police department saying, “Matt Weiss is on leave,” according to Associate Athletic Director for Public Relations David Ablauf.
Weiss then issued a statement saying, “I am aware of the ongoing investigation by the University of Michigan Police Department and fully cooperating with the investigators. I look forward to the matter being resolved. Out of respect for the integrity of the investigation, I will not have any further comment.”
It has been reported by two sources that know of the investigation, according to the Detroit News, that Weiss’ house at 2000 block of Norway Road was searched by investigators on January 10. Law enforcement officers and unmarked vehicles were present at the home.
According to ESPN, on the January 5 online crime log for the University of Michigan, they received a report about “fraudulent activity involving someone accessing university email accounts without authorization” at Schembechler Hall. In the last month, that was the only police activity reported at that facility.
Weiss came to Michigan in February 2021 from the Baltimore Ravens to coach the quarterbacks. He was later promoted to co-offensive coordinator with Sherrone Moore. He spent 12 seasons in Baltimore for Harbaugh’s brother, John, and was also graduate assistant for Jim Harbaugh at Stanford.
