GRAND HAVEN, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – A new Ottawa County board has ousted the county administrator and put former GOP congressional candidate John Gibbs in the office.
The move came Tuesday at the Ottawa County Board of Commissioners’ first organizational meeting of the year. The board voted 6-3 to fire John Shay as county administrator and replaced him with Gibbs effective immediately.

Gibbs previously served in former President Donald Trump’s administration; in November, he lost his bid to represent Michigan’s 3rd District in Congress after being defeated by Democrat Hillary Scholten.
“First of all, congratulations to all of you on the board for your wonderful election,” Gibbs said after receiving the position. “It shows that the people are still in charge. The Founding Fathers looking down right now are very proud of what’s happening right now, so just make sure you know that and this is a wonderful moment.”
