EAST LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – After weeks of community concern, special meetings, and cancelled classes, the school board has decided to increase security at East Lansing High School.
The school board’s special meeting on Monday night took into consideration a recent security assessment and staff input regarding a new safety plan.
The plan is divided into three categories which include immediate, short-term, and long-term. The immediate plan has already been implemented and it includes limiting hall passes, using one entrance door, and having teachers patrol the halls during passing periods.
In addition, the district plans to bring a bring in a security firm. It will also bring back in-school suspension, improve immediate communication, and provide active-shooter training for staff.
Long-term and ongoing goals for the district involve staff training on how to de-escalate situations.
