DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Detroit put together a strong third quarter scoring 36 points as they ran to a 135-118 win over Minnesota. Saddiq Bey made 10 buckets from the floor to lead the Pistons with 31 points as Bojan Bogdanovic added 27 points making five three-pointers.
Overall, six players scored in double figures. After Bey and Bogdanovic, Jaden Ivey, Killian Hayes, and Hamidou Diallo all had 18 points as Alec Burks added 13 points. Hayes was one assist shy of a double-double with nine. Detroit’s offense had a great night shooting 60 percent overall making 53 percent (17-of-32) from the arc. They held Minnesota to 48 percent shooting and out rebounded them, 38-36, recording seven blocks.

The first half went back and forth as Detroit trailed, 34-31, at the end of the first. Minnesota had an eight-point lead, 49-41, with 7:27 left in the second quarter and moved it to 10 points, 54-44, with 6:07 left. Bogdanovic hit a three-pointer with 1:18 to go to pull Detroit within two, 62-60, and then Hayes had a driving layup with 2.1 seconds left for the lead, 65-64. Detroit finished the last six minutes of the second quarter on a 21-10 run for the lead.
Up by one-point at the half, 65-64, Detroit’s third quarter performance became the difference in the game. Minnesota took a 69-65 lead at 11:16 but over the next five minutes Detroit went on a 18-5 run for a nine-point lead, 83-74. Bogdanovic tied the game at 69 on a pull up jumper at 10:06 and the Ivey had the shot for the lead, 71-69, as Detroit never let the Timberwolves in front again. It was Bogdanovic’s assist to Ivey for the nine-point lead on an eight-foot jumper. Minnesota cut the lead to five points, 84-79, with 5:20 left but Detroit finished the quarter on a 17-8 run for a 14-point lead, 101-87.
Isaiah Livers made it a 22-point lead in the fourth quarter on a 23-foot jump shot at 9:19. Detroit’s lead moved to 23-points, 120-97, on a Bey three-pointer at 5:05. The closest that Minnesota came after that was 15-points. Bogdanovic finished off the scoring with one free throw made with 51 seconds left for the 135-118 win.
They will travel to New Orleans on Friday for a 7:00 p.m. game time.
