DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Minnesota jumped out a 2-0 lead as they held off the Detroit Red Wings, 4-1, on Wednesday night. With 25 shots, Minnesota won 53 percent of the face offs as Frederick Gaudreau scored two of the four goals.
Elmer Soderblom recorded the only goal for Detroit. Magnus Hellbert had 18 saves for Detroit in only his second start this season and sixth of his career. Detroit is now 13-10-6 but have now lost four straight games.

Hellbert said, “I have to be faster making that save, especially in a crucial moment in the game like that we just scored. It killed our momentum a little bit.”
Gaudreau put Minnesota up 1-0 at the 14:37 mark on a power-play in the first period. Matt Dumba then scored at 8:02 in the second period to move the lead to two. Soderblom, on a assist from Adam Erne, cut the lead to one, 2-1, at 18:41 but Matt Zuccarello scored 13 seconds later for Minnesota making it 3-1. Gaudreau scored at 19:18 in the third period on an empty goal for the 4-1 final.
Detroit will host Ottawa on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
