ANN ARBOR, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The NFL Network is reporting that Michigan’s Blake Corum, one of the top running backs in the nation, will undergo surgery on his knee. Corum hurt his knee in the first half against Illinois on November 19 and didn’t return to the game. He tried to give it a go vs. Ohio State on the first series but left after not being able to make it work.

Corum is the Big Ten’s Running Back of the Year and up for two major collegiate awards. He has 18 rushing touchdowns and is eighth in the NCAA in rushing with 1,463 yards. He was in the Heisman Trophy talks before the injury rushing for over 100 yards in every game he played in. It is unknown what the recovery time will be and if he would be able to play in the College Playoffs if Michigan is selected to play.

Donovan Edwards has stepped into Corum’s place at running back rushing for over 200 yards against Ohio State and has over 600 yards on the season.

Michigan plays for their second straight Big Ten Championship on Saturday vs. Purdue in Indianapolis, Ind.
