DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – General Motors announced it is adding charging stations across the country.

GM will be installing as many as 40,000 electric vehicle charging stations in rural parts of the United States. The automaker will have the charging stations at parks, athletic venues, and shopping districts where drivers might park their car for a few hours.

There are currently 43,000 charging stations in the U.S.

In related news, the first mile of wired road in Michigan is coming to Detroit. A one mile stretch of road in Detroit’s Michigan Central Station district should contain inductive charging coils by the summer of 2023.

This would be the first step in addressing long range charging challenges for electric vehicles. Currently, EV’s must be stationary and plugged in to charge. Wireless charging would allow the use of smaller batteries which could reduce costs of an EV.
