KALAMAZOO, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – One of Michigan’s and America’s favorite beers, has a new brother in the family, and he looks a little different.
Bell’s Brewery in Kalamazoo revealed that the Two Hearted Ale line of beer would be getting a new face just ahead of the new year and also expanding.
“Growing the Two Hearted brand family has been a long-term goal at Bell’s,” Two Hearted brand manager at Bell’s, Carly Davis, said in a statement. “We were intentional about honoring Two Hearted’s 25-year legacy when creating Hazy Hearted, Big Hearted and Change of Heart and it was imperative that these new beers could sit alongside our iconic Two Hearted IPA, and be equally enjoyed for their perfected flavor profiles.”
On Thursday the brewery announced it will release a new Hazy Hearted IPA, a hazy version of the classic Two Hearted IPA, and a Hearted IPA Variety Pack to include a new exclusive – the Big Hearted, which is an imperial IPA at 9.5% alcohol by volume.
Those anticipating the new beers can be lucky enough to find six and twelve can variety packs of the Hazy Hearted IPA in certain Michigan stores this week, or on tap at Bell’s in Kalamazoo. More of the Great Lakes region dwellers can find the packs just ahead of 2023.
The traditionally enjoyed Bell’s Two Hearted Ale, has a flavor profile including notes of citrus, grapefruit, and pine with a ABV of 7%, and brewed with 100% Centennial hops. Drinkers of this IPA will notice a slight change in the label which will now read “Two Hearted IPA.” The Hazy Hearted IPA is a half a percent higher in ABV, and blends American and Australian hops, with a more tropical and fruit forward flavor.
“Not just any hazy IPA could join the Hearted family, so we worked for years to craft a flavorful beer that brings out the fruity taste IPA drinkers love, while maintaining the quality and balance Two Hearted IPA fans have come to expect,” Bell’s brewmaster Andy Farrell said in a statement.

The foursome variety pack will rotate a new seasonal beer regularly, and features the Change of Heart IPA which is the first experimental beer.
Those concerned that the traditional Two Hearted Ale flavor is changing, can have their worries laid to rest, for only the name and not the ingredients will change. So whether one enjoys their Bell’s beer at home, at Bell’s Brewery, or even on the Two Hearted River – detailed in Ernest Hemingway’s 1925 two-part short story – there’s sure to be an IPA suitable to your pallet.
