OXFORD, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The Oxford Community Schools Superintendent, Ken Weaver, has decided to resign from his position citing medical reasons.
“Over the last month, my health, wellness, and my own recovery from the events of November 30th has been greatly impacted by the stress and responsibility of my position,” he wrote. “With the deterioration of my health, I have come to understand that my own recovery path must now lead me away from Oxford Community Schools.”

Weaver said that he has been placed on medical leave effective Wednesday, due to the stress of his position and deteriorating health over the past couple of months, though he plans to leave the position fully by February 2023.
He was chosen to serve in the superintendent role last March, though he has worked in the district for nearly two decades.
“Tonight, the Oxford Community Schools Board of Education voted to accept the resignation of Superintendent Mr. Kenneth Weaver. Mr. Weaver has spent over 19 years serving the Oxford Community Schools in various roles that directly supported our students, our staff, and our school community,” the school board said in a statement.
The board also offered its gratitude for Weaver’s service, leadership, and advocacy of schools in the district.
To provide a more seamless transition, the board voted to appoint Mrs. Anita Qonja- Collins as assistant superintendent of elementary instruction and acting interim superintendent immediately.

“…The Board has also voted to engage a professional search firm to help identify a permanent interim superintendent who will support our school community as we undergo the process of finding a permanent superintendent,” the statement said.
Weaver was chosen to replace Superintendent Tim Throne in the wake of the effects of the shooting at one of the district’s schools. His decision to step down comes a week before the anniversary of the mass shooting inside Oxford High School which killed four students and injured six others.
