TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is asking hunters to keep their eyes open this fall in order to help orphaned bear cubs.
DNR officials are working to pair orphaned cubs with surrogate mama bears. They are asking hunters to keep an eye out for orphaned cubs in the northern lower peninsula.

Anyone who spots a bear den is asked to report it so the DNR can see if the animal is a good candidate to join the surrogate program.
Michigan DNR officials offered this reminder – it is illegal to disturb, harm, or molest a bear or bear den.
