GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Grand Valley State University will host the NCAA Division II women’s soccer Midwest Regional Tournament November 11-13. The Lakers earned the no. 1 seed with a 15-2-4 record winning the GLIAC Post Season Tournament. On Sunday, November 6, they held off Northern Michigan, 2-1, for the championship.
“We are really looking forward to hosting the first and second round of the NCAA Tournament,” says head coach Katie Hultin. “I am super proud of this team. We had three really solid performances (in the GLIAC Tournament) from the Purdue Northwest game to Ferris. Ferris we knew was going to be tough as we hadn’t beat them in two years. We were then relentless through the entire game against Northern to win the championship.”
Maryville University, the no. 4 seed, and no. 5 seed Northern Michigan will be the other two programs in the Midwest Regional Tournament. The two teams will play each other at 11:00 a.m. on Friday as the winner will play GVSU on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
This is the seventh consecutive NCAA Tournament for GVSU as they have won 15 GLIAC Tournament championships. The seven-time national champions have also won 12 straight Midwest Regional Titles.
