ANN ARBOR, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Lost in the hubbub of the coverage of the Michigan/Michigan State football game on Saturday, including the alleged assault on University of Michigan players that has been all over the news, was the reporting of an anti-abortion banner that showed up on TVs all across the nation, including during the fourth quarter of the football game.
The organization PAAU (Progressive Anti-Abortion Uprising) has claimed credit for displaying a large banner that read “No Prop 3. 2363.org” that appeared behind a goalpost as a University of Michigan kicker sent a football sailing across the football field in the fourth quarter of the game.

Proposition 3 is a controversial proposal that is on Michigan ballots which enshrines reproductive and abortion rights into the Michigan Constitution.
2363 is an anti-abortion website created by the organization Live Action that says, “Every day 2,363 children are killed in America” (by abortion). Caroline T. Smith, Media Coordinator for PAAU, said that they have partnered with Live Action in the past and have referenced the website in their ongoing advocacy because they “share similar missions and because the content of the website is so compelling…We believe that showing the people of Michigan what happens in an abortion will help to inform voters as to what they may or may not be supporting when considering Proposition 3.”
PAAU tweeted about the banner on Sunday by saying, “Last night, days before the MI election, PAAU activists dropped a large banner that read ‘NO PROP 3’ during the infamous football game between the University and Michigan State University at Michigan Stadium!”
They continued, “The action was in response to the extreme and dangerous nature of the constitutional amendment that Michigan will be voting on next Tuesday. If passed, this amendment would alter the MI state constitution to expand abortion to all 9 months of pregnancy, allow non-doctors to perform abortions, remove parental consent laws and remove 25 health and safety standards from abortion businesses forever.”
Terrisa Bukovinac, founder and executive director of PAAU, said in a press release, “My home state, Michigan, is at risk of becoming an extremist late-term abortion destination. Ensuring the failure of Prop 3 is essential to limiting the exploitive power of the Abortion Industrial Complex, and informing the voters of Michigan is the key. The unborn children conceived in less than perfect circumstances are at risk of being killed in greater numbers than ever before and it is the responsibility of every Michigander of goodwill to protect them by voting NO on Prop 3.”
Caroline Taylor Smith, Public Relations director for PAAU added, “Abortion extremism has no place in Michigan. I am a progressive anti-abortion feminist and a long term resident of Michigan, and the fact that the abortion industry is targeting my state in this way is disgusting. I’ve talked to hundreds of voters about this topic, and it is clear: Michigan doesn’t want Proposal 3, and it will be defeated.”

This was the first time the group did a “banner drop” at a major sporting event and they were able to sneak the banner in the stadium by tucking it inside the clothing of one of the activists. No security approached the activists after the banner was displayed and they were not at any point asked to leave the stadium. The banner was displayed during four separate times throughout the game.
This Twitter video shows PAAU creating and displaying the banner. The video shows them picking out ink and material, and starting the drawing of the banner. In addition to posting the video, they tweeted, ”We encourage other pro-lifers to employ creative nonviolent direct action in their cities as well!”
The PAAU Twitter feed defines their organization as follows: “We’re progressive grassroots activists dismantling the abortion industrial complex and standing in solidarity with the unborn victims killed by abortion violence.”
