GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – On the road in Northern Michigan for another GLIAC game, #1 Grand Valley State University improved to 9-0 with a 42-7 victory over Michigan Tech. GVSU is now 4-0 in the GLIAC with two games remaining in the regular season against Wayne State in Allendale and then on the road at Davenport University.

All three phases of the game were complete for GVSU as the offense finished with 552 yards of total offense, the defense held MT to just 167 yards, allowing just 42 rushing yards, and the special teams held the Huskies in check while making all their extra points.

GVSU scored two touchdowns in the first quarter as Tariq Reid ran from 14-yards out with 10:12 on the clock. Avery Moore then had an eight-yard run with 1:37 left to make it 14-0. MT cut the lead to seven with their lone touchdown of the day at the 13:38 mark on a four-yard pass. Reid recorded his second touchdown of the day with 8:07 to go in the second quarter from Cade Peterson to make it 21-7 at the half.

It was all GVSU in the second half with two scores in the third and one in the fourth. Jalon Tillman had an 11-yard pass from Moore with 9:40 to go making it 28-7. Cody Tierney then had a 23-yard touchdown reception from Peterson with 2:37 left in the third as the Lakers went up, 35-7. Kyle Nott finished off the scoring on a 51-yard run at the beginning of the fourth quarter with 13:34 left in the game as the final score, 42-7.

Peterson finished the game going 18-of-19 for 304 yards and two touchdowns. Nine players rushed the ball as Nott was the top runner with 76 yards. Both Tillman and Tierney had over 100 yards receiving. Tillman caught 10 passes for 191 yards while Tierney had five catches for 106 yards.

With two games left, GVSU is in control of their fate for the GLIAC title and the NCAA playoffs.
