LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – GOP gubernatorial candidate Tudor Dixon’s running mate, Shane Hernandez, has challenged Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist to a debate.

“Public service is an honor and those entrusted have a duty to provide honest service,” said Hernandez. “I would welcome the opportunity to meet Garlin Gilchrist on a debate stage and discuss the differences in our records.”

Gilchrist has not responded to Hernandez’s request.

In addition, the Dixon campaign is pushing back against what it calls “disturbing reports” from The Detroit News about Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist’s alleged business deals with a so-called shell company.

With less than one month to go before the general election and early voting underway, the chances of a debate between the two running mates seems slim. Democratic incumbent Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and Dixon will take the debate stage for the first time on Thursday. The second debate is scheduled for October 25.

The general election is November 8.
